The saffire units should have dedicated trs inputs that also accept hi z instr uments. I have the older saffire pro 26 io with 8 pres, 8 xlr, 8 trs inputs. Notated on the 1/4 inch input panel if states 1,2,5,6 also accept instruments while the others are just for balanced line ins. Inputs 1, 2 have a n instrument button that switches from line to instrument.
Using a transformerless design throughout, the PRO MPA maintains exceptional signal integrity and extremely low noise. The Active balanced input utilizes a hybrid, triple-differential transistor design, providing extremely low noise and excellent CMRR. Whether you’re working with a computer, hard disk or digital multitrack recorder, the Tube MP’s TEC award nominated design will allow you to obtain professional results at an affordable price. ART preamps offer warm tone, useful features, and are innovatively designed. ART’s line of Tube MP products add presence, clarity and fullness to any signal, and is exceptionally low-noise.
- Accessory Coverage – any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
- Sometimes I have to turn the sync rate knob a few to the left/right of the rate that I’m after for my interface to lock.
- Overall, it’s nice to have it on hand for some applications.
- I am using tubes from JJ Electronics and they are amazing!!!
- You can really saturate your tone or simply warm it up a bit.
- It’s the only product I know of in that line that has the voltage switch on front.
The technical spec looks suitably impressive on paper, with a frequency response extending from 15Hz to 48kHz (+0, ‑1dB) when the valve anode‑voltage is set to normal. An equivalent input noise for the mic input is quoted as ‑129dBu A‑weighted, translating to a dynamic range of better than 110dB, again A‑weighted. Both mic inputs can accommodate signal levels of up to +10dBu before clipping, whereas the maximum instrument level is +17dBu (800kΩ impedance). The output stage can handle up to +27dB on the XLRs, and has a low 47Ω impedance, which is suitable for driving long cables. Straight out of the box, vocals were noticeably more “lively” & we appreciated the tweakability of the unit. Along the bottom row you have a High Z input on each channel followed by a low-cut filter.
I use it routinely taken for stereo ambience . The most interesting is the choice of impedance that can fit a large variety of microphones, and microphone for the same tattoo versailles change a little color . Global Warming and it rhausse any type of signal. For my part I live on a test I recorded the mix in and I send the warmest rcupre. Every guitar or bass you purchase from Musician’s Friend includes two years of protection from manufacturer defects.

When you plug a microphone into your audio interface’s input, you never have to really think much about whether it is a mic level or line level source. But in reality, microphone audio levels are very quiet, and the built in preamp in your interface is turning that signal up to what’s called a line level source, which is much more useable. If using an audio interface, that’s all you need to know.

Knowing your preamp settings is important as well – know the difference between mic and line inputs on your audio card by – yes – reading through the manual. I’m using a tube preamp to a focusrite interface. The features (stereo recording via the stereo link and mid-side, variable HPF and variable impedance, etc.) are all very useful and make me wish every preamp had this level of customization. The variable impedance coaxes tone from mics that isn’t easy to replicate with a plug-in. Your preamplification needs will vary depending on what you want to do and what you’re recording – but, luckily, ART equipped the Digital MPA-II with the flexibility to meet your changing needs.

I decided to lift my game to the next level and boy, i did. In a nutshell, the Pro MPA2 is great value for money. A further button mounted between the channels selects the M/S decoding matrix, so that an M/S mic pair fed through the unit will produce a standard stereo signal at the output. But why are you putting it into your mixer and THEN into a preamp? If you can use S/PDIF, that’s a good option too in the case of audio cards like M-Audio. M-Audio provides far higher sample rates if you turn off the preamps and use it as a standalone converter. You have to find where Unity Gain is on your audio card.
After shopping for hours online, this was the most obvious choice of preamp for my price range. The build quality of the preamp itself is great and the tonal quality of the preamp is way above expectations. There is virtually no noise with the gain and output settings correctly positioned. And it is very easy to blend between a more saturated tube tone and an almost solid state characteristic using the low cut filters and various impedance selections. I just love how this preamp makes it so easy to record using multiple mics and the mid/side matrix and stereo blend option does that trick very well. I would highly recommend this preamp to any home studio owner or even a pro environment to add a high quality, affordable tube preamp to their collection.
Already, it’s a high rating in my book for a home studio. Addressing a universal audience, both amateurs and professiona… It may seem complicated to work with, but believe me it is not. Plug in your favorite mic and there’s no way you’re going to make it sound bad going through this preamp. You will have instead, colors and colors to choose from. Great choice in getting used vintage tubes IMHO and many times they outlast new tubes at about the same cost…
